paleo diet food listWhy do you need a Paleo food List ? Once you have started the Paleo diet, you will want to become familiar with the foods that you can eat, and the ones you should avoid. This is particularly important when you begin creating Paleo diet meal plans. It is also very important when shopping for foods to bake or cook specific Paleo dishes. There are of course a few differences of opinion on this subject but all in all the lists are pretty much the same.

It is very helpful to have a comprehensive list such as the one included with Paleohacks Cookbook. However, the following is a short very basic Paleo diet food list. Meats-

  • Beef,pork  sirloin, bison, venison, wild game, tenderloin, flank, and strip steaks are good choices. Dont forget the bacon.
  • Poultry
  • ‘This includes sausages of various types. Be careful of quality, look for grass fed meats.

Fish & Seafood

  • Salmon, tuna and other fatty fish are the best choices due to their high Omega-3 fatty acid content. However, cod,scallops,  perch, tilapia, mahi, shrimp, etc. are good choices also

Vegetables

Spinach, greens,onions, broccoli, zucchini,mushrooms, cauliflower, asparagus, brussels sprouts, cabbage,  garlic, fresh herbs, sweet potatoes , eggplant, bell peppers, avocado. The only caution here is nightshades and legumes.

Fruits 

Berries, mango, watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, grapefruit, oranges, plums, apples, bananas

Dairy 

Omega-3 fortified eggs from free-range chickens is a great choice!

This is only a very small Paleo Diet food list. Even people that have been on the diet for a couple of months still come up with a question now and then. Aside from essential foods there is also the matter of foods such as chocolate and alcholic beverages. These last two are not Paleo in the strict sense, but may Paleo people do use these as well as coffee and other bad habits. There is also the matter of spices and condiments. You will want to put something on the hamburger.
